Here are some facts about content marketing.

Content marketing is much more than article writing. According to the Content Marketing Institute, its definition is:

… a marketing technique of creating and distributing relevant and valuable content to attract, acquire, and engage a clearly defined and understood target audience – with the objective of driving profitable customer action.

It is a form of writing that directly speaks to your reader by creating content that will change or enhance your reader’s knowledge and encourage them to eventually make a purchase.

What is Content Marketing specifically NOT –
Is is not a sale pitch in the form of an article. It is not the constant barrage of “buy from me”.

Content Marketing is a smart form of sharing your information with your reader that offers them valuable information on a consistent basis so that they can decide when, if, and how often to convert a sale. By not slamming them on the head with sales pitches, you are going to be much more effective in your delivery of product information and other information that they will want to know. Plus using your content through your social media channels, you will offer those followers intelligent content that they want to read and that they are interested in too.

This is why blogging is so important for your direct sales business! Without a blog, you do not have a format in which to communicate to your online customers and potential customers the intelligent content you want them to read. To convert a sale on the internet without content, that means you are relying solely on linking and ads. While in some formats that will work, for long term success you need a more visible action that is proven to work by millions of small businesses and their satisfied customers.

Case in point… this entire blog is an example of content marketing. Think about that and decide if it works for your business.
